the podcast interview that launched my content strategy

Updated: May 8

... and the humbling of a brand strategist

You may have heard about the magical connection that breathed new life into my content strategy. Now you can experience the episode!

After my first conversation with Pete, I looked forward to what we else we could uncover. When podcast day rolled around, I wasn't even nervous. I'd listened to close to every episode of not a straight line, and I couldn't wait to be guided through reflections on my life in Pete's way. His approach felt familiar to me because what he pulls from his guests is everything I hope to pull from my clients during brand research. The respect he gives his guests mirrors the deep respect I intend to give to my clients. When we were done, it felt like magic.

Then the reality set in...

A few weeks later, Pete told me the episode was ready to air. All of the comfort I felt turned to panic. It suddenly hit me how vulnerable that conversation was. This would be an honest look at me as a human and a professional.

At first, I was too scared to listen. If I ended up being completely full of shit, this is when I would find out. I decided to sleep on it, but around 2 am, my body catapulted me out of sleep and into my podcast app.

As I listened, the panic drained from my body. Pete, along with his editor, Matt, curated my story to express what I want to express to the world. They heard me and made space for all the passion and curiosity I've poured into my career. I felt the ease that I strive to give my clients every day.

Doing this podcast taught me a lot. The kind of vulnerability that Pete pulled from me is the kind of vulnerability I ask of my clients during the branding process. I didn't realize how terrifying that is. Now I do.

I also learned the power of a good community. Since we recorded the podcast, we've integrated our communities, and those introductions have given both of us more opportunities and fuel for our creative fire.

We also laughed. A lot. Please enjoy the conversation that launched 1,000 new creative endeavors.
